On the occasion of the High Court’s Foundation Day, the Allahabad High Court has taken a significant step towards making judicial proceedings more accessible to the public.

The Court has decided that from 17 March 2026, Hindi translations of all non-AFR final judgments and orders delivered by the courts will be prepared. These translations will be made available digitally on the High Court’s official website so that litigants, advocates and members of the public can easily understand the decisions.

This information was shared through a press release issued by Joint Registrar (Media Cell) Vivekanand Sharma. According to the said release, the initiative has been deliberately linked with the historic occasion of the Court’s establishment day on 17 March 1866.

Describing the date as an important institutional milestone, the Court has formally launched the translation project from this very day.

The release further states that from 17 March 2026, Hindi translations will be prepared for three or more pages of non-AFR final judgments and orders delivered by all courts of the Principal Seat at Allahabad and the Lucknow Bench. Until now, only AFR (Approved for Reporting) judgments have been translated.

Under the new arrangement, Hindi translations will also be provided for certain cases relating to Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, in which the Supreme Court has delivered judgments.

The translation project will be carried out through the SUVAS Cell established at Allahabad and Lucknow. The initiative will function under the patronage of the Chief Justice, with guidance from the A-AHCR/ILR Committee and the Assistant Legal Translation Advisory Committee.

The Court has emphasized that the objective of this initiative is to reduce language barriers so that justice is not only delivered but also easily understood by every citizen. The step is being regarded as an important move towards ensuring greater judicial transparency and wider access to justice.
